Scripture Union Daily Guide 25th August 2026 Outline
The Book with the seven seals could not be opened by angels, the elders or any other creature in the universe. John described the only One who was worthy to open the Book and break its seals in various contradictory terms. He is both the Lion (Revelation 5:5) and a Lamb (Revelation 5:12), the Root (Lord) of David but also from David’s shoot (from the tribe of Judah Revelation 5:5, cf. Isaiah 11:1).
See others in Revelation 5:6,9,12. The reason why He is worthy is described in Revelation 5:9-10. This segment of John’s second vision showed the unique role of Jesus Christ in the plan of God for our redemption and final judgment. His death on the cross was in fact victory over evil, because He rose again to die no more.
The moment we know and accept what Christ has done on our behalf, we are filled with gratitude and praise. Note the universal effect of Christ’s death (Revelation 5:9). Are we daily becoming aware that around us there are those who are not yet conscious of what Christ has done for them?
